Annual Report

Annual Report to Parents 2017 - 2018

Chair of Governors’ Introduction

Each year we have the duty to provide an annual report to parents. The report details the academic, sporting and cultural activities and achievements of our school. As chair of the governing body it falls on me to write an introduction, and in such a busy school environment each year the annual report time seems to arrive ever more quickly.

This year will be my very last Annual Report to Parents; I have been a Governor at Llanishen Fach for over fifteen years and Chair for the past five years. I have enjoyed the challenges and there have been many.

In addition to our excellent academic, sporting and cultural achievements, there are many other important areas of activity and change that go unmentioned during the academic year.

We have seen staff and governing body changes as well as on going structural improvements to our buildings and grounds. Within this environment we have again enjoyed many successes under the leadership of our Head teacher, Mrs Coombes and her management team. Mrs Coombes is justifiably recognized within the Welsh primary education system for her inspirational and highly successful leadership. Under her leadership we have secured significant additional funding this year for the school and continue to ensure the needs are met of both today’s school children and those to come.

In response to her positive impact on teaching and learning, Mrs Coombes sits on a number of Consortium education committees as well as being appointed Executive Head of Pentyrch Primary School in 2017. In this capacity Mrs Coombes has worked to implement changes to ensure that their pupils’ attainment and wellbeing needs were met. We are extremely proud that through Mrs Coombes positive inspiration, and partnership with Llanishen Fach, a positive 2018 Estyn Inspection outcome was secured and the school was taken out of Special Measures.

I hope that you feel, as I feel, extremely proud of all of our team here at Llanishen Fach Primary School; a strong team whose sole focus is pupil achievement and wellbeing.

I must also thank our friends in F.O.L.F. for all their hard work and the great events they arrange and importantly the valued contribution they make to our school.

Finally may I take this opportunity to pass my sincere thanks to our Governing Body for their loyalty and support, during my term of office.

Mr Dave Thomson
