Beekeeping Club

A group of pupils representing Beekeeping Club and Digital Leaders visited Cardiff University School of Pharmacy for a lesson on pollen identification and to see the University's hive monitor in action.  After half term, Bridgend College will be visiting school to deliver a workshop to our Digital Leaders group to teach them the skills to program a Raspberry-Pi computer so that we can film and listen to the bees in our hives.

Our new beekeepers have been learning how to put on their protective suits so that there are no gaps for inquisitive bees!

Pupils in Beekeeping Club entered the Cows on Tour competition to design and plant a wooden cow planter on the theme of Grow your Own.  Pollination was the chosen idea and the children enjoyed painting 'Honeysuckle' with a bee and pollen design and filling her with lots of lovely plants for pollinating insects.  The competition was judged at the recent Royal Welsh Spring Fair and Smallholders Show and we were delighted that 'Honeysuckle' was awarded first prize.

Gardening Club

Our pupils were busy last Monday making planters using recycled pallets.  After much hammering they were able to fill their planters with compost and sow seeds of their choice.

Our African Garden was replanted with vegetables this week including carrots, parsnips, swiss chard and lettuce.
